Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to your questions about mobile auto repair, Utah County service, pricing, and vehicle care.

General

What is a mobile mechanic?

A mobile mechanic comes to your driveway, office, or any location in Utah County to diagnose and repair your vehicle on-site — no shop visit required. Instead of driving your car to a shop, a certified tech comes to you with all tools and parts needed. You skip the waiting room, towing fees, and lost work time.

What areas do you serve?

We serve all 19 cities and communities in Utah County: Provo, Orem, Lehi, Spanish Fork, Springville, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Lindon, Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs, Payson, Salem, Mapleton, Highland, Cedar Hills, Vineyard, Draper, Santaquin, and Woodland Hills.

How do I schedule service?
Call us at (385) 207-8309 during business hours, or email info@totalmobileauto.com anytime. You can also fill out our contact form and we'll reach out within 2 hours. Provide your vehicle details, location, and what service you need—we'll confirm a time to come to you.
What are your hours?

Weekdays: 7 AM – 7 PM (Monday–Friday). Saturday: 8 AM – 4 PM. We also offer emergency service outside normal hours for stranded customers. Call (385) 207-8309 to discuss your needs.

Do you offer emergency service?

Yes. If your vehicle breaks down outside our regular hours, call us at (385) 207-8309. We respond to emergency service calls for customers stranded on Utah County roads. Response time depends on location and current load, but we prioritize getting you mobile again.

Service

What services do you offer?
We offer 12 core services: oil changes, brake repair & replacement, tire replacement & rotation, CV axle repair, battery replacement, fluid check & top-off, headlight & taillight replacement, AC repair & recharge, belt & hose replacement, starter & alternator repair, pre-purchase inspections, and interior cleaning & detailing. See our full services page for details on each.
How long does a typical service take?

Most mobile services take 30 minutes to 2 hours at your location. An oil change takes 30–45 minutes; brake pads or battery replacement 45–60 minutes; CV axle or alternator repair 1.5–2.5 hours. We provide a time estimate when you schedule and call if anything changes.

Do you bring all the parts?

Yes — we bring tools and commonly needed parts for most services. For specialized parts (transmissions, engine work), we source them locally same-day when possible. We quote total cost — parts and labor — upfront before starting work. You are never surprised by the bill.

Can you work on any make and model?

We service 95% of vehicles on the road — domestic and foreign cars, trucks, and SUVs. Specialty vehicles with newer luxury diagnostic systems or hybrid-electric drivetrains may require shop equipment and are the exception. When you call, give us your vehicle year, make, and model and we will confirm on the spot.

What if my car needs more work than expected?

We stop, explain what we found, and ask for your go-ahead before proceeding. You're in control. If the job is beyond our mobile scope (major engine overhaul, transmission work), we'll recommend a trusted local shop and prioritize getting your vehicle safe to drive.

Pricing

How much does a mobile oil change cost?

Oil changes typically range from $45–$65 depending on vehicle type and oil grade. This includes oil, filter, and labor. We quote the exact price when you schedule. No surprises, no hidden fees.

Are your prices competitive with shops?

Yes — our prices are comparable to or lower than local repair shops. We eliminate shop overhead: no rent, no waiting room, no service desk staff. Those savings pass directly to you, and you also avoid the time cost of a waiting room visit.

Do you charge extra for mobile service?

No. Mobile service doesn't cost more. We charge for the repair itself, not for coming to you. Many customers find it cheaper than towing fees alone.

Do you offer fleet discounts?

Yes. If you operate a fleet or manage multiple vehicles, we offer discounted rates for recurring service. Call us at (385) 207-8309 to discuss your fleet needs and we'll work out a custom plan.

Utah-Specific

How does Utah's altitude affect my car?

Utah County's 4,500+ foot elevation causes engines to work harder, cooling systems to run hotter, and belts and hoses to face extra strain compared to sea-level driving. Thinner air also accelerates oil oxidation. We service vehicles with these conditions in mind and prioritize oil, coolant, and belt checks in every inspection.

Why does road salt damage matter?

UDOT road salt corrodes brake lines, CV axles, undercarriage components, and suspension parts faster than in dry-climate states. Utah vehicles with 4+ winters of exposure develop significant corrosion that a test drive will never reveal. We inspect for salt damage on every service call and recommend fluid flushes and undercarriage protection to extend vehicle life.

When should I winterize my vehicle?

Winterize your Utah County vehicle in October or early November, before the first hard frost. Key checks: battery health (cold kills weak batteries), coolant freeze-point concentration, brake and tire condition, and belt and hose integrity. I-15 corridor and mountain pass driving demand fully prepared vehicles — do not wait until December.

How does the I-15 commute affect vehicle wear?

I-15 commuting between Lehi and Santaquin accelerates brake wear, degrades transmission fluid faster, and beats up suspensions through constant elevation changes and stop-and-go traffic. Drivers who commute I-15 daily should schedule brake inspections every 6 months rather than the standard annual interval.
